about

"In 1987 I was able to buy my own 4-track cassette recorder for the first time, and I began doing some recordings of guitar ideas and instrumental tracks at home. Papernut Cambridge was still a name in a dream that I hadn't dreamt yet, and I didn't have any kind of name for this project at the time. This period 1987-89 was when Thrashing Doves were active, around the first and second albums. I had my 'band' guitar gear at home a lot of the time so I used that. My favourite guitar then was my black 1976 Les Paul Custom, and most of these pieces are played on it."

Recorded at home 1987-89.
All compositions by Ian Button.

Equipment used:

Fostex X30 Multitracker
Gibson Les Paul Custom
Guild Starfire XII
Boss OD-2 Turbo Overdrive
Boss CS-2 Compression/Sustainer
Lexicon PCM-60 Reverb
Yamaha D1500 Digital delay
Boss DM-2 Delay
E-Bow
Hohner Melodica
Boss DR-220A Dr Rhythm Digital

These recordings were mostly made using the four available tracks on the Fostex X30. In one or two cases additional tracks were made available by bouncing and sub mixing. Most effects were recorded direct to tape, some were added during mixdown to the master cassette. The tracks have been balanced and re-mastered digitally, and a couple of edits have been done to remove glitches and dropouts. Minor adjustments to speed and pitch have been made too, in the new master.
The download of this album includes a pdf file of the original Fostex X30 Owners Manual.
