"I was halfway down the M1 when they found him, still alive luckily.......needless to say they never re-booked me....."
“I want TWICE what you get,” he grabbed my Elvis lapels. “Or the world finds out you’re a FAKE!”
“I’m going to pull off the biggest heist of my career, and YOU’RE going to do one of the biggest illusions the world has seen…”
Born out of an ongoing email joke between bandmates, When the Magic Went Wrong brings together a series of unfortunate incidents from Ian Button’s (presumed) fictional past life as a struggling magic act - the anagrammatically named Toni Tubna. These short confessional tales relate some of the disastrous, often terrifying episodes and mishaps from that murky past, and are delivered in a style that is part Alan Bennett monologue, part witness statement under pressure, and part letter to Viz, complete with some of the most appealing traits of bad amateur fiction: leaps of imagination, unlikely peril, clear impossibilities, and obvious utter lies.
Fay 'Sta-Presto' Hallam's wonderful miniature illustrations punctuate the stories.
SECOND EDITION 2022 - re-titled and with dark green title panel/artwork.

The sounds of the sea
As I’m drifting back,
Drifting back in time,
To a life before me,
And I’m drifting back,
Drifting back.
Watching the oars
Glancing over the waves,
Drifting back, drifting further back.
The sounds of the sea,
The heat of the sun,
And I’m drifting back.
“Good day madam, please pick a card,
Put it back in the pack
And think real hard,
Concentrate upon the number
In the front of your mind.
Was this your card?
Was this your card?”
“And you, sir, could you come up here?
A round of applause, please,
For our next volunteer.
Open up your wallet,
Focus with your eyes,
And watch it disappear -
Watch it disappear.”
“He’s taken the cash out -
The man is a fraud!
There was 200 quid there -
Everyone saw!
Stop him from leaving!
We’ll make him pay
Before he gets away!”
“Oh, he’s trying to say
I’ve stolen his money;
Well that’s the oldest trick in the book.
Oh, you can’t trick a tricker -
You’ll have to be quicker,
Before you start suggesting I’m a crook!”
She never woke up,
She kept drifting back,
Drifting back in time,
The vast endless sea -
She kept drifting back,
Drifting back.
Watching the oars
Glancing over the waves,
Drifting back, drifting further back,
And there on the deck,
A bundle of £20 notes.

This is music that softly, gently, melodically improves the atmosphere. I first heard Rachel via The Dolly Mixture. That music helped me find beauty while living in a rough childhood home. I later ran away, taking my Dolly Mixture cassette with me. Many decades on, life's difficult, the world is troubled, but Rachel's music once again adds an element of beauty. Her music is something to cherish. Cheers, Rachel. Andy Waltzer

It's taken me a while to listen to the complete album in one sitting, finally manged it today and It is fanastic, a good mix of shorter hook laden songs and longer trippier tracks. Hopefully they can find the finances to come up to Glasgow for a gig. motorpsychonaut
